Description

Live in a national monument (rijksmonument) from the early eighteenth century, right in the middle of the Jordaan and on freehold land. At Nieuwe Leliestraat 49 stands a townhouse with an elegant neck gable and a carved wooden shopfront, spread over five floors and a cellar. Behind the façade you will find beamed ceilings, marble mantelpieces, old roof trusses under the roof and a view of the Westertoren. I would love to invite you for a viewing. Tip: Watch the video for some extra atmosphere, and be sure to take a moment for our virtual 3D tour, on our website. You walk virtually through the whole house and immediately get a good sense of the layout and the rooms. You can measure the dimensions yourself and remove all the furniture with one click to see the house empty. That way you arrive at the viewing well prepared. The house: The building has two front doors: one to the entrance hall with the stairs up, and one to the front room, the former shop behind the wooden shopfront. With its tall windows and its own door to the street, this is a bright study, and just as good a spot for a home office, studio or guest room. The heart of the house is the second floor, where the living room runs from front to back. On the street side, light comes in through three tall windows, and in the middle there is room for a large dining table by the marble mantelpiece. The beams are painted in historical colours that the heritage authority (Monumentenzorg) rediscovered in the building. At the back is the open kitchen, and from the two rear windows you look out over the rooftops to the Westertoren. On the ground floor you have a second kitchen, with green beams, a range with six gas burners and an oven, and a view of the patio. This floor also has the second living room, with French doors to the outside. The first floor has a bedroom at the front with a marble mantelpiece. Under the roof, on the third floor, is the largest bedroom in the house: a room with the old wooden trusses exposed, wide floorboards and three windows on the street side. The fourth floor has another bedroom at the front and a landing with a void, ideal as a workspace or reading corner. The patio sits sheltered between the front part of the house and the kitchen: a green outdoor room with planters, where you step straight outside from the living room. If you want more outdoor space, it is possible to add a roof terrace. You will need a permit from the municipality for this. The bathroom on the first floor has a freestanding bath beneath the window, a washbasin and a separate shower. The toilet is next door in a separate room. On the third floor you will find a second bathroom with a shower, washbasin and toilet, and on the ground floor a laundry room with a toilet. Below the house is a cellar that serves as storage. A lot has been invested behind the listed façade: the foundation was restored in 1987 with jacked piles, the roof has been renewed and insulated, and the exterior walls have insulated lining walls. The house is also ready for a heat pump: the heating system is suitable for low-temperature heating. The neighbourhood: Nieuwe Leliestraat lies in the heart of the Jordaan, between the Egelantiersgracht and the Bloemgracht, with old façades, little façade gardens and small shops in the Leliedwarsstraten. On the corner with the Prinsengracht is Café Wester, with a terrace on the water and a view of the Westertoren. On Saturdays you walk to the farmers' market on the Noordermarkt and pick up a slice of apple pie at Winkel 43 while you're there. On Mondays it's the Lapjesmarkt (fabric market). The Negen Straatjes (Nine Streets) are a few minutes' walk away, and Westerpark is a few minutes by bike. Trams 13 and 17 stop at Westermarkt and take you to Centraal Station in about seven minutes. By car you are on the A10 in no time via the Haarlemmerweg, and Schiphol is about half an hour away.
