Description

Live, work and do business in one of the most beautiful locations in the historic city centre of Zaltbommel A unique opportunity awaits in the remarkable Waaggebouw on the Market Square. This striking national monument was built between 1796 and 1798 to a design by architect C. van Leeuwen and has been a defining landmark in the heart of Zaltbommel for more than two centuries. Its monumental façade, featuring Doric pilasters, a pediment displaying the city coat of arms and a wealth of original architectural details, gives the property an exceptional presence. Inside, the impressive weighing scale suspended from the ceiling, dating from around 1624, recalls the building's original purpose, where merchants officially weighed their goods before trading at the market. The ground floor comprises a versatile commercial space of approximately 42 m², ideally suited for retail, hospitality or use as an art gallery. Thanks to its prominent position on the Market Square, the space enjoys excellent visibility and a lively setting. It is equipped with all essential utility connections and includes a restroom, making it immediately suitable for a variety of commercial purposes. The independent entrance to the upper apartment of approximately 78 m² is accessed via Oliestraat. This charming apartment is arranged over two floors and is full of character and historic charm. The first residential floor features the living room, kitchen and bathroom. From the living room you can enjoy beautiful views across the Market Square, with its inviting terraces, restaurants and the historic Town Hall. High ceilings and original timber beams create a warm and characterful atmosphere throughout. The second floor offers ample space for one or more bedrooms. Exposed wooden beams and the building's monumental character continue to create a truly unique living environment. The apartment is rich in history while offering an exceptional residential experience in a prime location. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Dutch history while combining living and working in one distinctive and characterful property. Have you always dreamed of a place where living, working and history come together? We would be delighted to welcome you to experience the unique atmosphere of the Waaggebouw, Market Square 15, for yourself. Description from the National Heritage Register Weigh House (Waaggebouw) A narrow, rectangular brick building with an upper floor and hipped roof, designed by C. van Leeuwen and constructed between 1796 and 1798. The front façade facing the Market Square features an arched carriage entrance flanked by two Doric pilasters of natural stone, supporting an entablature topped by a carved figure of Justice. The room above the weighing hall contains two windows, fitted during a recent restoration with traditional 15-pane sliding sash windows. The façade is crowned by a wooden cornice with triglyphs and metopes in the frieze, above which rises a pediment displaying the city's coat of arms framed by garlands. The interior still contains a weighing scale suspended from the ceiling, dating from around 1800.
