Between 1573 and 1795, this neighborhood, now called District C, formed the Handvoetboog district. At that time, districts were named after civic guard banners, and each district within the city walls had its own civic guard, made up of civilians. After the annexation by the French Empire in 1811, the districts were designated by a letter due to the problematic pronunciation of the old district names for the French occupiers. District C is the only one of these former districts in the city still known by this name.
Not everyone is familiar with this part of Utrecht's city center, but if you say "the district behind the Bijenkorf department store," everyone immediately knows what you're talking about. The district has undergone significant development in recent years. The new TivoliVredenburg, the extension of the Catharijnesingel canal, and the arrival of ROOST on the Singel canal have all contributed to this. And of course, familiar faces like De Oude Dikke Dries, Café Ome Willem, and restaurant C'est Jacqueline are still a must if you're looking for old-fashioned Utrecht hospitality.
The location is ideal. You can walk straight into the city, and Central Station is also a 5-minute walk away. Parking is available with a permit, and there are two large parking garages for visitors.
The small complex where the apartment is located was built in the early 1990s and is therefore well-insulated and ready to move into without any significant renovations. The bathroom and toilet were completely renovated four years ago.
Ground floor: shared entrance, doorbell, mailboxes, stairs, elevator, and access to the storage rooms. Here you'll find your own storage unit, ideal for bicycles and items you don't need daily.
Second floor: You enter into the hallway. Here you'll find the meter cupboard and access to the modern separate toilet. Next, you reach the bright and spacious L-shaped living room. There's a semi-open kitchen with a gas stove, dishwasher, oven, extractor hood, and refrigerator.
