Description

re, this elegant 1942 country house is beautifully integrated into its green surroundings. Indoors and out, the property offers a constant connection with the typical Twente landscape of meadows and woodland. The white facades, classic windows with mullions and louvered shutters, the thatched roof with traditional dormers, and the professionally landscaped garden all come together in a composition that evokes the charm of an English country cottage. Here, style, luxury, and refinement go hand in hand with a warm, homely ambiance. Because for the current owners, a sense of coziness and hospitality is essential. This striking home is ideal for those who love the outdoors and enjoy the finer things in life. The rest is up to you... EVERYTHING FEELS RIGHT From the very first moment, it's clear: only true craftsmen have left their mark on this home. Everything has been done with precision and passion, from the built-in cabinetry, decorative radiator covers with black natural stone tops, and wall paneling to the custom parquet floors. The same level of detail extends to the wrought iron railings, curtain rods, and outdoor lighting. The exterior woodwork is perfectly painted, and the garden is as thoughtfully curated as the home itself. Harmony and balance define the interior, with an expertly chosen palette of materials and colours. Lighting, sound, and other smart home technology are fully integrated and remote controlled. Built-in ceiling spots illuminate nearly every room with just the right atmosphere. A heartfelt compliment to the current owners, who have designed and overseen every detail themselves. GROUND FLOOR AN ENTRANCE WITH PRESENCE You enter the estate through an (automated) wrought-iron gate, flanked by two robust natural stone columns. There is ample room for multiple vehicles. A solid black panelled front door with knocker leads into a formal vestibule with custom coat storage. Behind double pivot doors with glass panels and mullions, you enter the central hallway with its stunning double-height ceiling. THE HALLWAY With its marble floor, bespoke wall mural, and impressive staircase with artisan wrought-iron balustrades, the hallway makes an immediate impression. A home intercom system with video access control adds convenience and security. From here, you can access the office, formal dining room, kitchen, and guest WC. THE OFFICE To the right of the hallway lies the home office—a bright, spacious room with underfloor heating and large windows that overlook the beautifully landscaped front garden. A French door opens to a paved path leading to a terrace that runs the full width of the house. A custom-built wall unit offers ample storage. THE WC Through a side hall off the main corridor, you’ll find a guest toilet finished in timeless light tones, as well as additional closet space. This hall also leads to the kitchen, though we’ll first explore the formal dining room, accessible via sliding glass doors with mullions from the central hall (or alternatively from the kitchen). THE DINING ROOM Perfect for entertaining, this warm and inviting dining room easily accommodates a large group. The wide sliding doors at the rear open onto a semi-circular, partially covered terrace that mirrors the shape of the adjacent pond. From here, enjoy uninterrupted views of the water, garden, and surrounding countryside. As in the adjacent living room, custom wall units blend open and closed shelving with integrated radiator covers and window seating. The off-white and taupe tones combine beautifully with the solid wenge wood floor laid in a herringbone pattern with a decorative border. THE LIVING ROOM A custom-designed shelving wall separates (or connects) the living and dining rooms, with wide walk-through openings on either side. The same herringbone floor continues seamlessly, reinforcing the sense of unity. The living room is spacious and inviting, with a majestic natural stone fireplace as the focal point. The open gas fire (remotely controlled) is a favourite spot for the owners to unwind. Sliding doors lead to the front terrace, which includes both a lounge area and a picnic table, shaded by an electric awning. From here, you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views of the garden. A door connects directly to the wellness wing, which we’ll explore shortly. THE KITCHEN In contrast to the rest of the home, the kitchen has a sleek and contemporary feel—yet thanks to careful material and colour choices, it blends seamlessly with the home’s traditional aesthetic. Black-brown solid wood fronts and marble-look composite counters combine beautifully with the existing marble floor, which has been polished and finished with a satin gloss. The centrepiece is a generous island with integrated dining bar, featuring a Miele FullSurface induction hob and a recessed ceiling extractor fan. A Quooker Fusion tap in matte black completes the cooking area. A large window over the sink offers magnificent views of the garden, pond, and countryside. Appliances are integrated into a custom cabinet wall and include a Miele oven and combination microwave, plus a Liebherr fridge and freezer. The kitchen offers ample storage and work space. “It’s a wonderfully practical and social space,” say the owners. You also have clear views of the entrance gate and driveway from here. UTILITY ROOM & GARAGE From the kitchen, you enter the utility room with a second sink and the back entrance. One large cupboard houses the washer and dryer, another is used for pantry storage. The adjacent garage is fully tiled, features an electric aluminium roller door, and includes a charging point for electric vehicles. A new boiler and modernised meter system (2022) are neatly tucked away in a wall of built-in cabinets. A loft hatch provides access to attic storage, although the main access is via the upper floor of the main house. THE WELLNESS WING Indoor pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish steam bath, bar, lounge conservatory, gym Over the years, the owners dreamed of having their own wellness retreat—and in 2001, they brought that dream to life with a substantial extension that perfectly matches the original home. The ground floor now includes a swimming pool, sauna, steam bath, lounge conservatory, and bar. Upstairs you’ll find a professional gym. The centrepiece is a rectangular pool sunk into the floor and bordered by natural stone. A dark dome ceiling twinkles with tiny lights like a starry sky. A wide stair at the shallow end ensures easy access, while the automatic pool cover helps maintain warmth and cleanliness. The floor is heated and finished with light-toned beach-style tiles. In the conservatory, a gas fire adds warmth and ambiance, and integrated blinds between the double glazing offer privacy. A custom bar with hidden cooling drawers creates the perfect spot to relax or entertain. Around the pool, you’ll find seating areas framed by rounded columns, custom wall art, and space for sun loungers. Nearby, you’ll discover the Turkish steam room and Finnish sauna, both enclosed in dark-tinted privacy glass. Additional facilities include a separate shower room, washbasin, changing room, guest toilet, and a technical room with all necessary systems: heating, filtration, dehumidification, and even a eucalyptus-oil tank for the steam room. French doors provide direct access to the front and rear gardens, and there is also a connecting door to the main living room. UPPER FLOORS Upstairs, space is again abundant. The main bedroom features a private bathroom and walk-in wardrobe, and two guest bedrooms share a second bathroom. There is a separate toilet, a fitness corner, and access to storage areas and a large attic room. Custom-built wardrobes and consistent style elements continue the sense of harmony throughout. A second staircase leads to the top floor, where a spacious studio or additional bedroom is located. STAIRCASE & LANDING The grand staircase is covered in plush black carpet, and the artisan balustrade continues onto the gallery landing above. A stunning chandelier, suspended from an ornate plaster ceiling rose, brings a sense of grandeur that must be seen to be fully appreciated. MASTER SUITE From the gallery, you access the walk-in wardrobe, which leads to both the main bedroom and en suite bathroom. The closet is lined with custom cabinetry designed for a full wardrobe. The air-conditioned master bedroom is generously sized, with warm wooden paneling, tilt-and-turn windows with mullions, and ambient spotlights. Remote-controlled blinds ensure a restful night’s sleep. Behind a set of sliding doors, a discreet metal shutter (also electric) allows private access to the adjacent gym. RENOVATIONS 1989 Before the current owners moved in, the home underwent an extensive renovation that preserved its historic charm while upgrading its systems. Electrical, water, drainage, and all upper floors were replaced. The home was insulated and fitted with double glazing. A new garden was landscaped, including a circular driveway and tennis court. 2000–2002 A major expansion took place between 2000 and 2002. The right wing of the house was significantly extended to accommodate the wellness facilities. The roof was replaced with modern insulated panels and new thatching. A second detached garage was added in the same style. “Yes, this renovation took time,” say the owners, “but we made sure every detail was exactly right. And it was worth it.” For the complete description, please visit our website.
