History
The Binnenkant, with the Oude Waal on the opposite side, is located on the Waals-Eilandsgracht, a charming canal with a rich history dating back to the Golden Age.
In the 17th century, Amsterdam was at the height of its power and prosperity as the world's most important trading center. The canal served as an important connecting route for trade ships. Warehouses were built along the banks of the Binnenkant and Oude Waal to store goods being traded. During the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, the Oude Waal lost its original function as a trade route.
During the 20th century, Amsterdam underwent even more drastic changes but this stretch remained largely untouched. Meanwhile, the Binnenkant/Oude Waal is known as a hidden gem and an oasis of peace amid the hustle and bustle of the city.
Layout
Upon entering through the common entrance you will reach, through a beautiful staircase with monumental light hall, the second floor.
At the front you will find the living room. This spacious room is characterized by large windows, which offer a beautiful view over the canal. The apartment has a beautiful wooden floor. There is enough space for a separate sitting and dining area. This room is the eye-catcher of the house. At the rear is the attractive and spacious kitchen diner. The fireplace in this room creates a warm and cozy atmosphere. It is possible to use this room as an extra bedroom.
The bedroom is located at the rear of the apartment. The roof terrace of about 30 m², is also located at the rear on the northeast. In the summer there is sun here almost all day. It is a wonderful place.
