Description
Daniel Stalperstraat 56 2-A, 1072 XJ Amsterdam
Right in the heart of the vibrant De Pijp district, around the corner from Sarphatipark and the Albert Cuyp Market, lies this charming studio apartment (35 m²), located at the rear on the second floor of a well-maintained building. The bright apartment has a practical and efficient layout. The property is situated on freehold land.
Location / Accessibility:
De Pijp is known as a young and lively neighborhood with charming architecture. Much of the neighborhood’s character comes from the numerous cafés, restaurants, and eateries. The Albert Cuyp Market (just around the corner), open six days a week, also contributes greatly to the area’s atmosphere.
De Pijp is well connected: by train (Amsterdam Amstel/RAI), several tram lines, and the nearby Noord/Zuidlijn metro station “De Pijp.” By car, the A10 ring road can be reached within minutes.
Layout:
Second floor (rear):
Entrance. Bright living/sleeping area at the rear. Semi-open kitchen. Simple bathroom with shower and toilet.
History of De Pijp:
The new neighborhood built behind the Paleis van Volksvlijt around 1900 was officially called Buurt YY, but it quickly became known as De Pijp. The area developed rapidly into a vibrant district. Several famous Dutch writers rented rooms here, including Herman Heijermans, Frederik van Eeden, and Bordewijk. Eduard Jacobs laid the foundation for Dutch cabaret in De Pijp. The neighborhood soon became known as Amsterdam’s “Quartier Latin”, a reputation it still holds today. Singer André Hazes performed here, and a statue commemorates him at the Albert Cuyp.
The origin of the name De Pijp has several stories. In 1892, it was compared to a pipe case with long, wide pipes from which clouds of people “poured out” on their way to work early in the morning. Whatever the true origin, everyone now refers to the area as De Pijp, and it remains a highly desirable place to live.
