Description
A unique and particularly pleasant place to live, literally around the corner from Van der Helstplein. This beautiful two-room apartment of approximately 57 m² is located on the first floor of a national monument building from 1921, where the Amsterdam School style is clearly visible. The apartment has two balconies (north and south), a spacious bedroom, a neat bathroom, and a separate kitchen with built-in appliances.
The building, designed by architect Piet Kramer, comprises a block on Rustenburgerstraat, Van der Helstplein, and Karel du Jardinstraat. At the beginning of the last century, the “NV Amsterdamsche Bouwmaatschappij” became the owner of the land, issued on a long lease. The complex was built in 1919/1920 in an early form of the Amsterdam School style, albeit less exuberant here than elsewhere in Amsterdam. In keeping with the stylistic characteristics of the architectural style, the complex has a symmetrical structure and features a combination of natural stone (mainly the plinth) and brick. Beautiful details include the sawtooth motifs on the corners, the wooden balustrades of the balconies, and the cornices on the streets. The large windows of the houses have not only skylights but also side lights, also known as staircases.
Jaap Huisman, a journalist and writer who publishes extensively on architecture, describes Van der Helstplein as a square with a ‘Parisian atmosphere’. This is not only due to the plane trees, but also to this beautiful building. Coffee shops, restaurants, an ice cream parlor, laundromat/dry cleaner, and other amenities give the neighborhood a village-like atmosphere. Within walking distance, on Ferdinand Bolstraat, is an Albert Heijn supermarket, and a short walk away is Sarphatipark. Trams and buses are within walking distance, and the Albert Cuyp market is a great place to explore.
Layout:
Ground floor:
At the front is the shared entrance to the apartments at number 323. The apartment on the second floor is easily accessible via the shared stairs.
First floor:
Open the front door to the spacious living room at the rear of the apartment. What stands out is the concrete-look finish of the walls and ceiling, which can be seen throughout almost the entire apartment. A south-facing facade with French doors provides plenty of light, and the wooden floor is painted white.
The open kitchen has a corner unit with a built-in gas hob, extractor hood, and oven. There is space for a dishwasher under the countertop, and there is also room in the kitchen for a refrigerator and freezer.
On the other side of the apartment is the spacious bedroom with bathroom and an indoor storage room. The storage room has space for a wardrobe and washing machine, so these appliances do not have to be in the bathroom or kitchen. The bedroom is large enough for a double bed and, like the living room, opens onto a balcony.
Next to the bedroom is the spacious bathroom, with a large window above the bathtub. Not only can you enjoy a warm bath, but the bathroom also has a separate shower and a sink with a mirror cabinet. The toilet, with a small sink, is in a separate room accessible from the living room. This is convenient, as it means friends and family do not have to walk through the bedroom to use the toilet.
Balcony:
French doors in the living room give access to the almost 3.50-meter-wide south-facing balcony. From the bedroom, you can access the balcony on the Rustenburgerstraat side, with a beautiful view of the lively neighborhood.
Surroundings:
Grocery shopping, dining out, a cup of coffee or tea, and walking in the park... it's all possible when you live here. Bus and tram are within easy reach, and you live a short distance from De Pijp metro station. And if you take the train, you can choose between Muiderpoort station and Amsterdam RAI.
