Description

Spacious and very bright three-room apartment of 65 m² located on the third and fourth floors of the historic canal house, the former auction house ‘De Zon’, with a magnificent view. A building with history! The building originally dates back to 1609 and was known as the house 'where the sun stands on the roof'. In 1663, the building was sold by the then owner, the widow of Mayor Geelvinck, to a group of Mennonites who had separated from the main church in 1660. The new congregation adopted the house name De Zon as its name. A large clandestine church was built behind the building, a gallery church with three barrel vaults, where the two smaller vaults were supported by Doric columns that also supported the galleries. After 1823, Amsterdam's first private auction house was established in the clandestine church. To this end, the building on the canal was renovated in 1854 according to a design by W.A. Froger. The church space was divided in two: the lower section became a viewing room, with the auction hall above. In 1988, the auction house was converted into apartments, but the important rooms and the vault were preserved. Source: Digitaal Grachtenboek We would be happy to show you around this bright and beautiful apartment! Layout Entrance to the building on the canal with access to the hall featuring a staircase leading to the second floor. Apartment entrance door with a private staircase and the meter cupboard next to it. On the third floor is the landing connecting the various rooms. On the canal side, a very bright living room with three beautiful windows offering, naturally, a stunning view of the canal and the beautiful canal houses on the opposite side. Thanks to the location, you enjoy wonderful sunlight here. The modern open kitchen adjoins the sitting room. The corner kitchen is equipped with all necessary built-in appliances, such as a 4-burner gas hob, extractor hood, fridge-freezer, combination microwave, and dishwasher. The first bedroom and bathroom are located at the rear of this floor. The bedroom is a good size and offers sufficient space for a double bed and a good wardrobe. The bathroom has a very practical layout. It features a double sink, a bathtub, a toilet, and connections for the washing machine and dryer. The central heating cupboard, where the high-efficiency boiler is installed, is also located here. Finally, you can take the stairs to the attic floor, where a second bedroom has been created and where there is ample storage space. The skylight provides extra natural light. How unique it is to see the historic Amsterdam canals even from the bedroom. In the basement, there is a communal storage unit shared with two other apartments. In short, a beautiful apartment in a superb location with a fantastic view. Location and accessibility This apartment is located in the heart of Amsterdam, at the quiet beginning of the canal belt.
