Description
A characterful home in rural North Amsterdam, just outside the city. Zunderdorp is home to a charming detached cottage with two bedrooms and a lovely south-facing garden. The living room with wood-burning stove has a warm and cozy atmosphere, as does the custom-made kitchen.
Zunderdorp was once part of Waterland but, together with Ransdorp, Durgerdam, and Holysloot, was incorporated into the municipality of Amsterdam in 1920. If you hop in a boat here (or lace up your skates in winter), peat ditches reveal a historic cultural landscape. You would almost forget that you live just outside the A10 ring road, a 10-minute bike ride from the metro and 20 minutes from the ferry to Central Station, making the city center easy and quick to reach.
Layout: Ground floor: The red front door is not currently used as an entrance. We walk around the back, via the path, to the kitchen door. Once inside, you understand why we call this not a ‘house’ but a ‘home’. What an atmosphere! The kitchen has a wooden corner unit with a large sink and white tiles on the walls. This is not a kitchen you can buy in a store, but a custom-made kitchen with various built-in appliances: a gas stove with oven, an extractor hood, dishwasher, and refrigerator.
The approximately 9-meter-long living room has lots of light and a nice layout, with the sitting area at the front and the dining area at the back. The wooden floor, the stairs, and the ceiling beams are painted in light colors, as are the walls. Beautiful elements include the custom-made cupboard wall and the wood-burning stove in the sitting area.
First floor: On the landing, next to the stairs, is a storage cupboard with the high-efficiency boiler. This not only provides heating, but also hot water in the bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom has a bathtub, toilet, and sink. A long dormer window provides extra space and daylight, not only in the bathroom but also in the bedrooms. The front room has a beautiful L-shape and the rear room has a wall of cupboards. The wooden floors, black roof beams, and interior doors add to the atmosphere.
Garden: The backyard is a cozy, sheltered outdoor space, conveniently located on the south side with an impressive wisteria that blooms in the spring and provides shade throughout the summer. The wooden shed with double doors offers enough space for bicycles, barbecue, and other items.
Surroundings: Zunderdorp has childcare facilities, making it the perfect village for a young family. There are, of course, plenty of primary and secondary schools in Amsterdam-Noord, just a few kilometers away. Are you a fan of organic groceries and local products? Then we recommend Monnickendam and Schellingwoude (Landmarkt)! For all other purchases/groceries, there are two shopping centers in Amsterdam-Noord: Waterlandplein and 't Boven IJ. You don't have to travel far for soccer, tennis, and other sports either.
Zunderdorp is located in an area that has been designated a Protected/Municipal Monument. Two of the eight Dutch entries on the World Heritage List are located in Laag Holland: the Defense Line of Amsterdam and the Beemster. This emphasizes the great historical significance of the area: old, beautiful, and unique in the world.
