Description

Classic Grade II listed (monument) mansion near the city centre This Grade II listed mansion, built in 1881, was architecturally designed, and is located on the stately Stationsstraat in Bergen op Zoom. Built in an eclectic style and richly decorated on the outside with garlands, mouldings and coats of arms, it makes one curious as to what's inside. Get acquainted with the property and discover that stately and classic can go hand in hand with a warm atmosphere. Living rooms with richly decorated high ceilings The facade of Stationsstraat 13 in Bergen op Zoom is richly decorated with garlands, mouldings, coats of arms, mounted stuffed animal heads and French balconies. For those who are impressed by the outside, a surprise awaits inside. Architect C.P. van Genk went the extra mile with the interior. High ceilings (4.25 metres) with decorative mouldings, the marble floor and the step with beautiful columns on either side make the entrance truly impressive. We take a small step to the vestibule, the space through which various rooms can be reached. We begin with the study. Anyone who works here has a beautiful view of the stately Stationsstraat. Don't forget to look up every now and then, because the ceiling is a feast for the eyes. The adjacent living room has a similar high ceiling which is also richly decorated. It's fun to discover differences. Characteristic to this space are the large windows and marble fireplace. Another side room was created next to the living room. The spaces now form a whole, as it were, but can be separated from each other with authentic panel doors. The side room, with marble fireplace and a decorative ceiling, is ideal for hosting dinner parties. If you walk a little further, you will find yourself in what is currently the dining room. The decoration of the ceiling is more subtle here. An added feature of this space is the beautiful stained glass above the french doors to the conservatory. Imagine opening both patio doors and take a moment to admire the sight of the rose arch in the romantic garden. Simply imagine what it's like in spring and summer. The kitchen is a space with possibilities. Create the cooking area of your dreams, with a beautiful view of the garden. The space is currently equipped with all basic comforts: from a 4-burner gas stove to an oven. The utility room, accessible via the hall, was restored in 2016. During the restoration, the original antique tile panelling was restored, and handcrafted cabinets and a kitchen counter were added. The floor has characteristic Portuguese tiles and the skylight brings a sea of light. Did you take in the monumental panel doors when you entered the utility room? Beautiful etched windows in an exotic atmosphere. Vaulted cellar with brick wine compartments Under the stairs in the entrance hall is access to two spacious (about 40 m² in total) and dry cellars. One of the cellars is equipped with brick wine compartments: a dream come true for many a wine lover. In addition to storing the finest wines, this extra enclosed and dark space is also perfect for storing other tasty food items. First floor with four bedrooms and bathroom Back in the hall we take the stairs to the first floor. This includes three bedrooms, a bedroom/office, a bathroom, a separate toilet and the stairs to the second floor. The bedrooms are spacious in size, equipped with insulated wooden floors and all four with beautiful decorative ceilings. One even more richly decorated than the other. Furthermore, each room has its own unique features. The two rooms at the front have a balcony, as well as a French balcony with a view over the Stationsstraat. You may notice when opening the balcony doors that they are double glazed. This was added during the restoration in 2016. The bedrooms at the front also each have a marble gas fireplace. The bedroom at the rear of the house does not have a fireplace, but it does have fitted wardrobes with beautiful panel doors. There is also air conditioning, for extra comfort. Finally, bedroom/study four, accessible via the landing areas. This room has a beautiful view over the backyard; and have you discovered the round stained glass window yet? Just like the rest of the house, the bathroom also has a classic design. In an understated white, the emphasis is on the antique free-standing bath and antique marble sink. Including nostalgic taps. The bathroom also has a shower, but the toilet – with the same finish – is separate. Second floor with impressive master bedroom The second floor was renovated and restored in 2016. During this renovation, new windows and dormer windows were installed, all with double glazing. Here we find two bedrooms and a bathroom. The master bedroom (approx. 35 m²) covers the entire length of the floor and can be described in one word as 'beautiful'. This is because the choice was made here to keep the beams and truss of the roof construction exposed. It doesn't fail to impress. The movable stairs give access to the loft with the HR combi boiler and plenty of storage space. An air conditioner has been installed for extra comfort. In the second bedroom the beams were also kept exposed. It is also maybe worth mentioning that the built-in wardrobe was initially a box bed wall. A nice bonus is the second bathroom on this floor. Fully equipped with all necessary comforts. Romantic, architect-designed garden Open the conservatory doors and enter the lush backyard. An oasis of peace and quiet that offers a lot of privacy because of the surrounding walls and the vegetation. 'Romantic' was clearly the atmosphere that the landscape architect wanted to create here. Our sight is drawn to the hydrangeas and other flowers in pastel shades. We also see a pergola, a water feature and cobblestone paths that lead to various terraces. The outdoor area, situated to the north, is approx. 10 metres wide and 15 metres in length. This means that there is continuous sunlight, in different spots throughout the day. Not in sight, but ever present, are the stone shed and the masonry compost bin in the back of the garden. This also leads to the back of the property.
