Description
Un Coup de Cœur!
Looking for a home where atmosphere, comfort, and luxury come together in perfect harmony? Then this generous family house on the charming Schermerstraat is a dream come true for families seeking space and refined living comfort. This characterful home from 1908 (approx. 173 m²) is located in the highly sought-after Zijlweg Quarter and has been renovated with great care, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
From the moment you step inside, you feel it immediately: space, light, and warmth. The high ceilings and large windows create beautiful natural light and a wonderful sense of openness. This is the kind of house that instantly feels like home – stylish, comfortable, and future-ready.
At the rear is a sunny southwest-facing garden of approx. 55 m², complete with a wooden shed: a true extension of the home, where children can play freely and long summer evenings come naturally.
A house with character, a soul, and a refined appearance – un vrai Coup de Cœur. Come and see it for yourself… if the photos haven’t already convinced you.
Layout
Ground Floor
Entrance with a spacious hall and corridor featuring the meter cupboard (18 groups and 5 residual current devices), a deep storage closet, and a modern toilet with washbasin. Beneath the staircase is a second storage closet housing the underfloor heating installation.
At the front of the house is the charming living room with elegant en-suite doors and built-in cupboards on both sides. At the rear, the property has been extended across the full width and fitted with a robust anthracite-grey façade with tall windows, providing an abundance of natural light. This area houses the modern open-plan kitchen, fully equipped with built-in appliances including an induction cooktop with Bora extraction system, Quooker, dishwasher, double ovens, and a fridge-freezer combination.
The extension is stylishly finished with a distinctive combination of wood materials. Through the tall French doors, you have direct access to the sunny southwest-facing garden with a detached shed.
The entire ground floor is fitted with underfloor heating and finished partly with light oak parquet flooring in a herringbone (Hungarian point) pattern and partly with light granito floor tiles.
First Floor
Landing with practical cupboard space for washing machine and dryer. The generous master bedroom has an en-suite connection to the front room, currently used as a walk-in closet. The modern and spacious bathroom features a bathtub, separate shower with rain shower, washbasin, toilet, and underfloor heating. At the street side, there is a third bedroom.
The bedrooms and dressing room are finished with beautiful light oak parquet flooring.
Second Floor
Landing with skylight and central heating installation (Nefit, 2014). This floor comprises two spacious bedrooms and a third, slightly smaller bedroom at the front. The second modern bathroom is equipped with a bathtub, separate shower with rain shower, washbasin, toilet, and underfloor heating.
This floor has a particularly atmospheric character thanks to the exposed wooden beams and is also finished with light oak parquet flooring.
The Neighborhood and Surroundings
Schermerstraat is located in the beloved Zijlweg Quarter, a quiet and pleasant residential area with an almost village-like atmosphere, just a stone’s throw away from everything that makes Haarlem so attractive. Here you enjoy peace and tranquility, while the vibrancy of the city is always close by.
Local shops along the Zijlweg, the historic city center of Haarlem, and a large Albert Heijn supermarket are all within a five-minute walk. Looking for nature or relaxation? The beach and dunes can be reached within approximately 20 minutes by bike. Accessibility is excellent as well: within five minutes by bike, you reach Haarlem Central Station, from where Amsterdam Central Station is about a 25-minute journey.
Living on Schermerstraat means:
a quiet, friendly, and peaceful street with a welcoming atmosphere
within walking distance of Haarlem’s vibrant city center with its restaurants, cafés, and shops
close to the beautiful Kenaupark and other green parks for relaxing walks
a primary school with childcare facilities nearby
beach and dunes within comfortable cycling distance
excellent public transport connections and easy access to major roads
a pleasant mix of young families, starters, and life enthusiasts as neighbors
In short: an ideal living environment for those who want to live quietly, while having city life and nature within easy reach.
A personal note from the owner
Our favorite place in the house is without a doubt the kitchen. So light and spacious, with views of the garden and the sky above – cooking here feels like a small moment of happiness every day. In summer, we often eat outside, sheltered by the trees that provide just enough shade, making a sunshade almost unnecessary.
Even on rainy days, the house has something special. On the top floor, we listen to the raindrops on the roof; a soothing sound that makes the house feel extra safe and comforting.
When I return to France, I will take this house with me – as memories that live on, deeply anchored in my heart.
