When we first saw Schoolpad 6, we were immediately captivated by both the atmosphere of the house and its truly unique location. A quiet, characterful street in the heart of the old village, within walking distance of everything that makes Laren so beloved: the charming Brink, excellent restaurants and terraces, primary school De Binckhorst-St. Jan, and hockey club LMHC. But above all, it was the house itself that instantly appealed to us. The charming 1927 architecture, designed by architect A.P. van den Brink, the rounded shapes, the beautiful natural light and the warm atmosphere make this a truly special home. The property combines character and elegance with an incredible sense of comfort and security. A true family home. In 2022, we completely renovated the house under architectural supervision, with great attention to detail and deep respect for its original style features. Our goal was to preserve the authentic character while adding every modern comfort. It is precisely this combination that makes the house such a wonderful place to live. The living room is without doubt one of our favourite spaces. Thanks to the curved panoramic windows, the light changes beautifully throughout the day. Calm and soft in the morning, warm and vibrant later in the day. The fireplace with its antique mantelpiece adds even more atmosphere, especially during long winter evenings. The kitchen truly forms the heart of the home. This is where we cook, dine, work, help with homework and spend long evenings talking with friends and family. The kitchen is generously designed and fully equipped with every conceivable built-in appliance, including double refrigerators, freezers, ovens and dishwashers. Thanks to the French doors, the transition between indoor and outdoor living feels completely seamless. The dining room is equally inviting, enhanced by the original wooden beams that immediately add warmth and authenticity. Behind the ensuite sliding doors lies a separate sitting room; a peaceful place to read, listen to music or enjoy drinks with friends. From here, you can walk directly into the garden. Above this wing is a space we have always considered an incredible luxury: the self-contained guest accommodation with its own bathroom. Ideal for guests, an au pair, a home office or an artist’s studio. The curved rooflines give this floor a unique appearance and a very distinct atmosphere of its own. Over the years, the basement level has served many purposes: a playroom, gym and wine cellar. In 2024, electric underfloor heating was installed, transforming it into a fully functional additional living space. The first floor features three comfortable bedrooms with exposed wooden beams and beautiful natural light. The master bedroom is generously proportioned and fitted with bespoke wardrobes. The bathroom feels like a luxury hotel suite, complete with a freestanding cast iron bathtub, double washbasin, walk-in shower and authentic materials that perfectly complement the atmosphere of the house. The second floor has always been a wonderful children’s floor: playfully designed and full of possibilities. Outside, the property feels equally special. The surrounding garden offers both sun and shade throughout the day, ensuring there is always a perfect place to sit. During the summer months, we spend almost as much time outdoors as indoors. The various terraces and seating areas give the garden a different atmosphere at every moment of the day. In 2022, the garden was upgraded with a professional Inlite lighting system and an automatic irrigation system. Through the electric entrance gate, you reach the spacious driveway with private on-site parking, something exceptionally valuable in the centre of Laren. What we will perhaps miss most is the unique combination of tranquillity, character and vibrancy. Living at Schoolpad 6 means living in a home with soul, in one of the most beautiful villages of Het Gooi. A place where memories are made.
