Description
Bright home with high ceilings located on a quiet waterfront.
When the rowing boats glide gently past in the early spring morning, only the sound of the rippling Rhine and a soft splash of oars in the water can be heard. Looking out at the old sawmill and the passing historic ships, it is wonderful to peacefully sit in the front garden with a cup of coffee or tea, listening.
The quay is a dead end and car-free, so there are no passing cars or cyclists. As soon as the sun has gained some heat and the water is warmer, the cooling of the water is regularly sought by local residents who take a refreshing dip. The real heroes from around the neighborhood even take a New Year's dive here every year. And it is not just the front of the house that is pleasant to reside at. The sheltered, deep backyard faces west and is ideal for year-round use: hosting a BBQ, a lovely place for the children to play, or to lay on a lounger in the sun.
The house was built in the 1920s when there were still high ceilings (more than 2.6 meters) and the windows extended all the way to the ceiling. You immediately notice this upon entering by the amount of light that enters all the rooms and the spacious feeling, with the many original details, such as the stuccoed decorative ceilings, emphasizing the atmosphere of that period. A lot of glass and high ceilings used to make it quite warm in the summer and quite cold in the winter. The walls, floors and all the glass have now been made sustainable (the upper windows also have double glazing), making the house pleasant all year round.
There are many facilities for young families in the immediate vicinity: a playground at the end of the street, no fewer than three primary schools within walking distance and sports clubs and secondary schools are within cycling distance. Around the corner at the end of the street is the Morspoort, the entrance to the historic city center of Leiden. The canals and monumental buildings provide the historic setting for terraces, shops, restaurants, theaters and museums. Leiden Central Station is a little further away. You can get there in a few minutes by bus or bike, and destinations such as Rotterdam, Schiphol, The Hague and Amsterdam are only half an hour (or less) by train.
You can park your car in front of the door (you will need a permit). If you get in in the morning, you can be on the A44 motorway towards Amsterdam or The Hague in a few minutes. Due to the opening this year of the new Rijksweg 11 West under Leiden, there is a fast connection between the A44 and A4, making Utrecht and Rotterdam easy to reach.
