Description
Living on Marken is a dream for many. Surrounded by water and connected to the mainland via the Zeedijk. Full of character, atmosphere, history, and rich traditions. And on this island, you have the opportunity to live in a typical Marken house from 1916, with a surprising amount of space and a beautiful southeast-facing garden. There are three floors in total, with a total volume of 298 m3. This rough diamond deserves a complete renovation, after which you can proudly say that you live ‘on Marken’.
The house is built entirely in the traditional Marken style and fits in well with the architectural characteristics of this part of the Kerkbuurt. It is the second house in a block of three houses, namely 187 to 189. These houses are connected to the block of houses with the numbers 184 to 186. In the stone foundation of this house, there is a natural stone memorial stone with the text ‘THE FIRST STONE LAID ON 29 AUGUST 1916 BY NEELTJE MOENIS, AGED 11 YEARS’.
Marken has various amenities, including a large supermarket and a primary school. There are also medical facilities, various restaurants, and a village hall. Its history dates back to the early 13th century, when the island was given as a gift to monks who founded the Mariahof there. We now know this place as the Kerkbuurt, where this house is located. The village was formerly known for its fishing industry and has only been accessible by car and bus since 1959.
Layout:
First floor:
An external staircase leads to the front door of this typical Marker house. Behind this door is the hall, with the meter cupboard and toilet. Here you will also find the stairs to the ground floor and the second floor.
The bright living room can be easily divided into a sitting and dining area, with the dining area on the kitchen side being the most logical layout. The large windows at the front and rear allow plenty of light to enter, and the view of the characteristic buildings is beautiful. The kitchen has a simple wall unit with a double sink and some built-in appliances.
Ground floor:
The ceiling height of the ground floor is approximately 1.92 meters, which is just too low to classify this floor as usable living space/living area. If you are going to renovate, it is possible to achieve the required height.
This floor, with its own entrance at the front, offers space for a multifunctional room, the bathroom, and a (bed)room. The bathroom, with a large window on the garden side, is equipped with a sink and a shower.
And how will you use the multifunctional space and the bedroom? This floor, at garden level, can be used as a living area, but it would also be suitable as a pleasant study or studio.
Second floor:
On the second and top floor, there is a landing, three bedrooms, and a built-in closet. A dormer window has been installed at the front and rear, making all bedrooms much larger and brighter. In terms of space, it is possible to convert one of the bedrooms into a bathroom and the built-in closet into a toilet.
Garden:
This house with potential has a spacious, largely tiled garden facing southeast. A simple storage shed has been built next to the house, and the garden provides a good basis for greening according to your own ideas. An advantage is that there is hardly any view from the public road, providing a lot of privacy.
Surroundings:
The island of Marken is surrounded by water and is a popular place to live because of the water sports opportunities and the history that is still very much present here. There are good bus connections, including to Amsterdam. The village has its own primary school, and secondary education is available in Monnickendam, Amsterdam-Noord, and Volendam.
Parking:
There are parking facilities in the immediate vicinity for residents with a permit.
