Description

Will you become the new owner of this beautiful National Monument in Monnickendam, whose history dates back to the 18th century? Or actually even further, because as early as 1636 there is mention of this address when a certain Pieter Gerritsz. van Suchtelen bought a house and yard on the Noordeinde, was named as the right half of house number 24. We make a jump in history, to the 19th century, when the new city doctor bought the double house on Noordeinde 24/26 as a residence with a practice. There was talk of “the beautiful facade of the transverse 18th-century house with the concave sidewalk. Later the property was filled in as a pharmacy, selling spirits in addition to medicines. During its sale to another pharmacist, a number of rare mortars disappeared, one of which ended up in Edam's museum. Many years later, in 1957, the function of pharmacy expired and for many years it has been a residential house. Not just any residential house, but a monument with a history and a story. Location: The location is fantastic; right in the historic center of Monnickendam and around the corner from the harbor. People live here, various stores and businesses are located and tourists come to admire the atmosphere and architecture. What makes this property special is its location right across from the neo-Gothic Nicolaas and Antonius Church. Where other properties in the street have street-width across neighbors, house number 24 literally has space and air and light in front of it. Layout: First floor: Through the beautiful, richly decorated entrance you walk into the first part of the hall. You will see beautiful stucco work, a high ceiling with segmental arches and a marble floor brimming with character. In the second part are the guest toilet with hand basin and the stairs to the second floor. From the third, and also rear part of the hall, you have access to the garden. Between the first and second part of the hall there is a beautiful door with etched glass, in which there are floral motifs and a decorated vase. Where the first floor used to have a combined living/working function, there is now a full residential function. In the right part of the property are the music room and a sitting room, with the sitting room connected to the garden through French doors. The left part of the property accommodates a dining room and the kitchen with a second dining room. Thus, you can choose whether you want to dine overlooking the garden or the church. Many old elements can be seen, which formed the basis for choosing the kitchen. This one, thanks to its paneled doors and color scheme, fits perfectly into the whole. Walk around the different rooms and admire the wooden ceilings, the large fireplace with fireplace, the wooden floors and the wide passage in the right part with an arched ceiling. Second floor: Follow the stairs from the hall to the second floor, where there are four bedrooms and a bathroom. At the rear are two cozy bedrooms with, quite remarkably, a sloping roof. With the construction of fixed closets, the space in both rooms has been optimized. At the front are the two other bedrooms, with high windows and beautiful views towards the church. One of the rooms is set up as a study/library, with custom-built bookcases and a dark red beamed ceiling. The bathroom is laid out with a bathtub/shower combination, a double sink vanity and a toilet. Second floor: The stairs continue to the second floor, where there are two more bedrooms and a bathroom. Both bedrooms have an almost 4-meter high ridge, a skylight at the rear and a dormer window at the front. The bathroom is laid out with a shower, toilet and sink. Outside: From the hall and living room you have access to the fantastic garden of over 250 m2, which is very spacious for city center standards. The location on the east, combined with the depth, ensures all day a place to sit in the sun on one of the three terraces. Furthermore, you will see a lot of greenery in the garden, ranging from grass to low plants and a beautiful hazel. Two so-called rooms have been created that proudly bear the name green oasis and are separated by an impressive beech hedge. In the back part of the “secret” garden, next to the raised terrace, there is a stone shed for garden tools. The path around the back with connection to the harbor street also belongs to the plot. Surroundings: The location in the historic center, within walking distance of the old harbor and marinas, is beautiful. Enjoy the fantastic atmosphere you experience here, with many monumental buildings and houses in narrow alleys and streets. The bus stop is within walking distance, from where you can travel towards Amsterdam, Purmerend and Hoorn. Monnickendam has an excellent location about 20 car minutes from Amsterdam and about 15 minutes by bus to the stop of the North-South line (station North).
