ENVIRONMENT
From Tuinbouwstraat, you can reach the A2, A12, A27 and A28 motorways fairly quickly by car. Public transport connections are also good. In a 10-minute walk, you can be in the centre of Utrecht or at Central Station. The lively Amsterdamsestraatweg has all the necessary amenities, such as supermarkets and restaurants.
Nearby are several playgrounds, day-care centres and primary schools. The wide pavement also invites lots of outdoor play. Several families with children of varying ages live in the street. Parking in front of the door is always possible.
The Pijlsweerd neighbourhood was built on the site where the Bethlehem convent once stood. Pijlsweerd was traditionally an area with many gardeners and growers. Street names like Hoveniersstraat and Warmoesstraat still remind us of this. In the twentieth century, Pijlsweerd became urbanised. The gardeners left. Since 1863, the area was bisected by the Utrecht-Zwolle railway line, necessitating the construction of level crossings. When the railway was raised in 1938, the level crossings disappeared and the two parts of Pijlsweerd were separated.
