Description
This delightful family home from 2017 combines comfort, space, and modern finishes into a particularly pleasant and stylish place to live. The house meets all contemporary living requirements. On the first floor, there are three generously sized bedrooms, while the surprisingly spacious top floor offers ample possibilities for expansion or a flexible layout. The bright living room features French doors and tall windows that connect seamlessly to the sunny south-facing garden with open views. The ground floor boasts a stylish, light-toned cast floor with underfloor heating.
Layout:
Upon entering, you’ll immediately notice the neat hallway with a wardrobe, beautifully painted staircase, toilet, and meter cupboard. Next to the entrance to the living room, there is a practical understairs built-in cabinet. From the living room, there is an unobstructed view of the garden, contributing to a feeling of openness and space.
The backyard is a lovely spot to enjoy the sun, facing south and featuring a sunshade spanning the full width of the back of the house. At the back of the garden, there is a wooden shed, and the garden borders a path that overlooks the vegetable and flowers gardens behind the house.
At the front of the home you will find a modern kitchen—a true eye-catcher thanks to the stylish semi-cooking island with a cozy breakfast bar. The kitchen is fully equipped with high-end built-in appliances, including a Quooker tap, two ovens (one with microwave function), a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and a sleekly integrated induction cooktop with built-in extractor in the counter.
On the first floor, there are three bedrooms. The master bedroom is very spacious. The front bedroom is currently used as a walk-in closet, complete with built-in wardrobes that will be left behind. The third bedroom is located at the rear and currently serves as an office.
In 2023, the bathroom was completely renovated and now includes a bathtub, walk-in shower, floating toilet, heated mirror with lighting, towel radiator, wooden vanity, built in light spots and designer tiles. The bathroom window provides natural daylight and good ventilation. The same cast flooring that can be found on the ground floor continues on the upper floors, creating a stylish unity throughout the house.
The second floor is very spacious and, thanks to the high roof, offers great potential. A large Velux skylight at the rear provides extra light. Plenty of storage space has been created with the built-in cabinets on the sides of the room. On the landing, you’ll find the laundry area, central heating system, and mechanical ventilation unit. This floor is perfect for creating one or two (bed)rooms. There's also the possibility of adding dormer windows to both the front and rear sides, which would further increase the living space and sense of openness.
Location:
Tuindorp is located on the south side of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, on the edge of a natural environment and just a stone’s throw from the charming village center. Amsterdam is only a 15-minute bike ride away along the scenic Amstel River. Shops, restaurants, and upscale sports facilities are all within easy reach by car, foot, or bicycle. The neighborhood includes several daycare centers and a broad-based school, the Jan Hekmanschool, which also offers after-school care.
It’s a beautiful residential area with a wide variety of homes. The layout and architecture of the development have been carefully designed to respect the history and village character of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. Tree-lined avenues with stunning spring blossoms have been preserved as much as possible, and the existing network of waterways plays a key role in the design. Children can play safely on the streets. It’s a very friendly and sociable neighborhood.
What the current owners say:
What we will miss the most? As soon as the day begins, sunlight already bathes the house. Sunlight fills the garden from morning to late evening. We love enjoying our breakfast either outside or inside with the large French doors open. Following a day of work in Amsterdam and a scenic bike ride back along the Amstel, coming home feels like a moment of peace. The garden is the perfect place to unwind during the golden hour.
Behind the house you will find vegetable and flowers gardens. Which means that there is nothing blocking the sunlight. You can’t see any buildings or houses from the garden—only an open and green view. This provides a lovely sense of space and privacy.
As you might have noticed from the small greenhouse in the garden—we love gardening. Within a minute, we can walk to our allotment in the complex behind the house, where we grow vegetables and flowers. If you also like gardening, it might be possible for you to take over that allotment too.
Indoors, the new bathroom has become one of our favorite places of the house: a perfect spot to relax in the bathtub or under the rain shower.
There’s always ample parking in front of the house. Children play safely and freely on the square, while neighbors often enjoy chatting while having a drink together—just like you would imagine in a lively village. And Ouderkerk aan de Amstel really is such a lively village: charming, green, with surprisingly trendy restaurants and even a luxury gym with wellness around the corner. We will be leaving this home with heavy hearts, but we sincerely hope the new owners will create just as many beautiful memories here as we have.”*
