A dive into the past:
How nice would it be to learn more about the history of this place on the Zaan? More than 200 years ago, in 1810, several pearl mills were started up in the Zaan region to produce pearl barley. In 1913, a new factory was built on the Zaan, with a silo no less than 30 metres high. Part of the former factory has been preserved and Kroonenburg, a beautiful apartment building, now stands on the site of one of the demolished buildings. The street name “De Gortpeller” is therefore an ode to history!
