LIVING IN A LOFT IN A RENOVATED BEER DEPOT - MONUMENT
Beer Depot De Drie Hoefijzers was originally a depot for the eponymous brewery from Breda. The complex was designed by K. Meijer & H.E.M. Rademaker architects and was built just before the First World War. It consists of an office villa, a cold storage house, and a horse stable. The brewery from Breda had several depots in the Netherlands. The depot in The Hague is probably the last one that still exists. Until the late 1960s, it was owned by ‘De Drie Hoefijzers,’ after which, among others, a timber merchant and eventually a car scrapyard were housed there.
The complex has been a municipal monument since 2007, but it was already in poor condition at that time. The state of the depot has only deteriorated in recent years, which is why the old carriage house was demolished in 2010. To prevent further decay, Stadsherstel Den Haag decided to purchase the complex.
In 2019, six sustainable homes were created in the former office villa, along with a commercial space in the former cold storage building. In 2025, four homes were realized in the former horse stable. Zwetstraat 3, is a beautiful loft apartment that is now being offered as a rental apartment. The complex is within walking distance of the center with all its amenities in the Rivierenbuurt, conveniently located between both Station Hollands Spoor and Station Den Haag Centraal, as well as major road networks.
