NVM Open Huizen Dag

  1. Saturday, October 3 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Description

A wonderfully spacious and light-filled home in the heart of Oost: this excellently maintained flat covers an area of around 120 m² and occupies the top two floors of a characteristic Amsterdam building dating from 1912. There is a private entrance from the second floor. The property boasts no fewer than four bedrooms, two balconies and the potential for two roof terraces. It stands on freehold land. The property is situated in a quiet, leafy street in the popular Indische Buurt neighbourhood. Javastraat, Molukkenstraat and Javaplein – with supermarkets, specialist shops and trendy cafés and restaurants – are just round the corner. The Muiderpoort railway station, the daily Dappermarkt and the Oosterpark are also within walking distance. Layout You reach this two-storey flat via the communal staircase. From the second floor, a private staircase leads up to the third floor. On this floor, you’ll find the spacious and sunny living room with an open-plan kitchen, a bedroom/study, a bathroom and the balcony. The flat features beautiful cherry wood flooring. The modern kitchen has plenty of cupboard space and is fitted with high-quality built-in appliances, including an oven, dishwasher and fridge-freezer. There is space for a generous dining table, and French doors lead out onto the balcony. On this floor, there is also a practical built-in cupboard with a washing machine connection. The bathroom is fitted with a bath, washbasin and toilet. An internal staircase leads from the living room to the fourth floor. This floor is also accessible via its own staircase, meaning it can be used separately if desired. Here you will find three bedrooms, a spacious landing and a second bathroom with a shower and toilet. This layout makes the floor suitable for guests, an au pair or older children living at home, amongst other things. Surroundings and accessibility The property is situated in the Indische Buurt neighbourhood of Amsterdam-Oost, a green, lively and much-loved historic district with beautifully renovated buildings and every conceivable amenity within walking distance. It is centrally located near the daily Dappermarkt, the Oosterpark, Flevopark with its heated outdoor swimming pool, and Artis Zoo. For local shops, you can visit Javastraat just round the corner, whilst Molukkenstraat and Eerste Van Swindenstraat are also nearby. The neighbourhood is home to many specialist shops, excellent eateries, the Studio K cinema, and trendy cafés and restaurants such as the Badhuis Amsterdam, Restaurant Wilde Zwijnen and Bar Basquiat. The property is conveniently situated close to the city centre, near the A10 ring road, and is also easily accessible by public transport: it is within walking distance of Muiderpoort railway station, which offers train services to Amsterdam Central Station and towards Utrecht Central Station. There are also several key tram and bus routes just round the corner. The city centre can be reached by bike in 10 minutes. When did you buy the property, and why did you decide to buy it at the time? As soon as I stepped into the flat, the light streaming in made me happy. It was 1994 and I’d been looking for a home for a while, but almost everywhere I went to view, I found it too dark and too small. This house was love at first sight. With its space, light and tranquillity, it had a lovely atmosphere, and I felt at home there straight away. The estate agent was showing a group of potential buyers round, and before I knew it, I’d put my hand up: ‘This is my home!’ What makes living in this house and in this neighbourhood so enjoyable? It’s a real Amsterdam home, full of character. It’s remarkably peaceful and light, and it has a relaxed atmosphere. There’s also plenty of space to have friends round; I’ve organised countless dinner parties here. I think the Indische Buurt is the nicest neighbourhood in Amsterdam. Javastraat is a lovely place, with a mix of international greengrocers, bars and restaurants, a good bookshop, a wonderful Volendammer fishmonger and the best (and friendliest) cobbler in town. The neighbourhood is open and friendly. The residents come from all corners of the globe and everyone knows each other – it’s all very cosy. Madurastraat is the perfect spot, as it’s just round the corner from Javastraat but without the hustle and bustle. It’s a leafy street with plenty of flowers and plants, and residents gather at the communal tables on summer evenings. The Indische Buurt and Madurastraat also offer excellent transport links. Muiderpoort station is a five-minute walk away, and Central Station is just one stop further on. By bike, you can reach the city centre in under ten minutes, and by car you’re on the motorway in no time. Why are you moving away/why is the property for sale? I’d love to stay here forever; I still think it’s a dream place. But I now live and work abroad, and unfortunately can no longer keep the house. It’s time for new residents to enjoy living here just as much as I have over all these years.
