Our name derives from the Heeren XVII (the Lords Seventeen), the directors of the Dutch East India Company (VOC), at the time the most powerful trading company in the world. At one point, two of them traded a house for hard currency, with another acting as intermediary. According to tradition, it was the very first estate agency transaction. When Eran and Sander started Heeren Makelaars, their motto was: ‘If they were the first, we will be the last.’
